Char Dham refers to the four sacred pilgrimage sites in India, which are considered to be the most significant for Hindus. These sites are located in the northern state of Uttarakhand, and they are believed to offer spiritual liberation (moksha) to those who visit them. The four holy places in Char Dham are:

Yamunotri: Dedicated to the goddess Yamuna, this is the source of the Yamuna River. It is located in the western region of Uttarakhand and is surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. Pilgrims take a holy dip in the river at Yamunotri to purify themselves. Gangotri: Gangotri is dedicated to the goddess Ganga and is the source of the Ganges River. This sacred site lies in the Garhwal Himalayas, and it is believed that the Ganges descended from heaven at this spot to purify the Earth. Kedarnath: Situated at a high altitude in the Kedarnath range, Kedarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This site is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are sacred shrines dedicated to Shiva, and is known for its significance in Hindu worship. Badrinath: Badrinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the 108 Divya Desams (sacred shrines of Vishnu). It is located in the Garhwal region and attracts thousands of devotees every year. Together, the Char Dham pilgrimage is considered to be one of the most important religious journeys for Hindus. The pilgrimage involves visiting all four temples, typically in a specific order—Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. It is believed that completing the Char Dham Yatra purifies one's soul and brings salvation.

The Char Dham circuit opens for a few months each year, generally from April to November, as the region is often snowed in during winter, making the temples inaccessible.
